This Slurry Test Kit permits laboratory quality measurements of viscosity, specific gravity/density, pH, water hardness, and sand content.
The MATRIX Slurry-Sampler® is designed for capturing samples of drilling fluid from any specific depth within an excavation or borehole. This special sampler assures slurry samples taken produce a representative sample for proper test results. The use of a sampler is important for exact depth confirmation of viscosity, specific gravity, pH, and sand content data collection in the drilling fluid.
Samples are taken to check slurry properties at a marked depth to guide treatment and maintenance of the fluid, and in accordance with applicable specifications. The Slurry-Sampler is designed to collect a sample large enough to run the normal specification tests. This reliable sampler is important on projects where sand content is tested prior to concrete placement.
This four scale sleek new metal Mud Balance is built using an all machine manufactured process instead of the old die-cast molded method. This uniform method of construction results in a more rugged instrument that is an accurate, self-contained measuring device used to determine the slurry density. It is one of the most sensitive and accurate field instruments available for determining the density or weight-per-unit-volume (specific gravity) of drilling fluids. It has a range of 7 to 24 pounds per gallon or Specific Gravity of 0.84 to 2.88.
pH Test Strips
The pH indicator strips are used to measure pH, by the fact that the color changes with pH. Visual comparisons of the color of a test solution with a standard color chart provides a means to measure pH accurate to the nearest whole number. The paper strip soaks up the liquid and the indicator dye in the strip changes color. Solutions with a pH less than 7 are acidic and solutions with a pH greater than 7 are basic or alkaline. Pure water has a pH very close to 7.
Hardness Test Strips
The water hardness test strips measure Total Hardness in the range of 0 to 26 grains per gallon (0-425 parts per million, ppm). Calcium hardness is reported in milligrams per liter calcium (mg/l). Less than 100 mg/l calcium is recommended; otherwise the performance of polymer and Bentonite drill fluids is restricted and delayed. Treat out excess calcium by adding M-BOOSTER® (Soda Ash) to the mix water prior to the start of mixing.
Chlorine Test Strips
These high quality easy-to-use test strips are very accurate and portable. The Chlorine Test Strips measure chlorine, in the low range as free chlorine 0 to 10 CL2 and total chlorine in the range of 0 to 10 mg/L or ppm.
This test strip method uses an indicator chemical that develops a color when added to chlorinated water. The color turns darker with high chlorine residuals. Users compare this color to a color scale to read the chlorine residual in milligrams per liter mg/L. If there is no color change, there is no chlorine in the water.
It is important to measure the free and total chlorine levels in municipal water supplies as the chlorine works to break down the polymer slurry. Chlorine Test Strips are packaged 50 to a bottle and used when the mix water to build a BIG-FOOT® polymer slurry comes from a city fire hydrant.
Marsh Funnel Viscometer
The Marsh Funnel Viscometer is an easy to operate instrument that is used for making quick, on the spot measurements of slurry viscosity. Viscosity is the resistance to flow and the measurement taken is affected significantly by the rate of gelation and by the density of the slurry. The Marsh Funnel readings are general measurements, but the frequent reporting of the Marsh Funnel Viscosity will alert the user to swift changes in the slurry viscosity that could require corrective action.
Sand Content Kit - DELUXE 5-PIECE SET
Sand content is defined as anything retained on a 200 mesh screen and the percentage volume of particles larger than 74 microns. The volume of sand, including the spaces between the grains, is expressed as a percentage of the volume of the slurry. The value read from the measuring tube is reported as percentage by volume. Excessive sand may result in the deposition of sand settling in the hole.
The Sand Content Kit consists of a special 200 mesh sieve 2-1/2 inches in diameter, fastened inside a collar upon which a small funnel is fitted on either end. This is used with a 10 ml glass measuring tube, graduated to read from 0 to 20% percentage of sand by volume. The collar and funnel are made of polyethylene and the screen is made of brass. A 500 ml wash bottle and carrying case are included.
